Michel Pavlou is an Oslo based Greek visual artist and independent filmmaker . His works have been featured and awarded since 1990 in numerous exhibitions and festivals worldwide. He gained several grands, supports and fellowships for his visual researches, by international institutions, including the Norwegian State’s Guaranty Income for Artists (since 2012).
Pavlou develops works that approach moving image as a space of reflection in which time folds back upon itself. Drawing inspiration from Deleuze’s ideas, the work inhabits that suspended moment in which the virtual and the actual, the remembered and the immediate, the fictional and the real become mutually inseparable.
At the core of this practice lies a sustained inquiry into reversibility: between fiction and reality, past and present, self and other. Pavlou’s moving images do not seek to resolve these distinctions, but to hold them in productive tension. In this shifting terrain, the image becomes a site of ambiguity, where temporal layers overlap and identities remain in flux. The work evokes a condition of disorientation and introspection, articulated through the questions: “Où suis-je?” and “Qui suis-je?”—Where am I? Who am I?
Through a rigorous formal language and a sensitivity to cinematic duration, Pavlou constructs visual experiences that invite contemplation of unstable subjectivity and temporal displacement. The resulting works do not merely represent memory or fiction; they stage their entanglement, opening a space in which perception itself becomes reflective, fragmented, and alive.
